I dagarna avslutas min utställning på gallery ImSpa, Ridderkerk i Holland. Det har varit ett fantastisk entusiastiskt mottagande och en uppföljare är därför redan inbokad för år 2023.
På förslag av galleriet presenterar jag här en nedbantad version av utställningen med tillhörande texter där jag förtydligar motivens budskap. Med tanke på att utställningen är internationell är texterna på engelska men med svensk översättning.

When I left my country I abandoned my roots on that ground where everything had its beginning.
But the courage to change gave me strength to live.
Mod/ När jag lämnade mitt land lämnade jag mina rötter i den mark där allt hade sin början.
Men modet att förändra gav mig kraft att leva.

Memories can be either of happiness or of regret. They are belonging to the past but continue with full power to be a cause in our life when we forget to live in the present.
Minnen/ Minnen kan vara både av glädje och sorg. De tillhör det förflutna men fortsätter att med kraft påverka våra liv om vi glömmer att leva i nuet.
One with the nature, acrylic on canvas, 70×50 cm
Men are one with the nature. The purpose of all species is to survive. A common will to safeguard a future for all, is that it must exist a respectful balance.
En med naturen/ Människan är ett med naturen. Syftet för alla arter är att överleva. Ett gemensamt syfte som garanterar en framtid om en respektfull balans råder.

She looked at him with new eyes. His passion was already flourishing. Something had awakened their desire. Somebody called it a sin. Maybe it was a fruit or an innocent thought. The desire was awakened and conquered the world.
Legend/ Hon såg på honom med nya ögon. Hans passion var redan i full blom. Något hade väckt begäret hos dem båda. Någon påstår att det var en synd. Kanske var det ett djur, en frukt eller en oskuldsfull tanke. Åtrån var väckt och besegrade sedan världen.

Man is in continuous movement, searching for something in the future that will give him happiness in present time. But this will never be achieved because the future is an illusion and the hunting for an illusory happiness will cause the present to get lost.
Inne i spelet/ Människan är ständigt i rörelse, söker något i framtiden som ska förgylla nutiden. Ett mål som aldrig uppnås för att framtiden är en illusion och jakten på illusorisk lycka gör att nutiden därigenom går förlorad.

The strength in the child’s presence is total. The eyes reflect an intensity that expresses the willingness to live and to experience what the world has to offer in this moment.
Intensitet/ Kraften i barnets närvaro är total. Ögonen speglar en intensitet som uttrycker viljan att leva och upptäcka vad världen har att erbjuda.

A true relation between an animal and a human being draws out the best quality of them both.
Symbios/ En äkta relation mellan djur och människa lockar fram det bästa från dem båda.

The nature has always welcomed mankind to be part of the whole creation, but the humanity doesn’t seem to agree. Is it because of the human need to dominate?
Dominans/ Naturen har alltid välkomnat människan att ta del av hela skapelsen men människan nöjer sig inte med detta. Är det ett mänsklig behov av att dominera som är orsaken?

Looking at Roland Ekström’s work, it always elicits a smile on my face. How does that happen?
Is it because of the composition? Could it be because of the special palette that Roland uses? Or is it the subject of his work of art that hold up a mirror to us and allow us a glimpse into his “Interior World”?
I think it must be a combination. In addition, it is the irony of reality that he depicts. The work is groundbreaking and yet very recognisable. It is not easy to interpret the work of Roland Ekström.
I intend to work it out as a recipe.
“Take an exceptional talent. Mix that with a Nordic, read Swedish, philosophy. Add to this: “Mannerism”, along with a generous hand of “Composition”, a tablespoon of “Cubism”. Stir well. Finally, for the finesse of course, a touch of “Fantastic Realism” and “Irony”. Serve the whole on linen. The result is…a painting by Roland Ekström.”
Mannerism; meant in the sense of using an unrealistic palette, a distortion of the figures and a non-simple composition.
Composition that shows a unique representation of elements.
Cubism but realistic; the spherical shape and the lines give the work a completely different character.
Magical Realism because the figures are displayed very clearly and magical because a dream world is created in addition to the realistic.
These 4 elements provide the absolutely unique work of Roland Ekström. His palette is somewhat reserved, very expressive yet understated. His brush is delicate, precise and, above all, impressive.
His compositions are often ironic, playful and yet lovely, but always based on experiences from Roland’s life and therefore very recognisable.
The viewer is invited without too much ado into the inner world of the artist.
A summary of the work can be summarized in a few words: Unique and penetrating.
