När våren är här är det med besked. På några få dagar visar naturen sin extatiska livsglädje efter att ha vaknat ur sin vinterdvala. Detta lockade oss till en utflykt i det närliggande naturreservatet Nazzano, där Tevere slingrar sig igenom det vackra landskapet, på sin väg till och igenom Rom, för att sedan bryta sin väg ut till havet vid Ostia.
Tillsammans med vårt barnbarn Camilla, promenerade Giuliana och jag på de välgjorda stigarna i naturparken för att följa Teveres rika flöde på nära håll. En njutbar promenad med en underbart rogivande utsikt, medan fågelsång hälsade oss välkomna och fjärilar dekorerade luften runt växterna.
Tevere, som tidigare bar namnet Tiber, var den viktigaste transportleden för de antika sabinernas handelsutbyte med det rika Romimperiet. Den värdefulla olivoljan och vinerna från Sabinas kullar transporterades på båtar, vilka var hjälpta av flodens kraftiga flöde mot staden. Däremot var naturligtvis återfärderna väldigt krävande och ofta fick båtarna dras med rep från strandkanterna.
Förutom att erbjuda allmänheten en naturlig oas, är parken också försedd med utrymmen för grillning och picnic, utkikstorn för fågelskådning och informationstavlor med upplysning om det rika djurlivet inom området.
Nazzano är väl organiserad i syfte att undervisa skolbarn, vilket gör parken välbesökt av skolklasser och är även försedd med lekparker.
Under sommartid finns det också möjlighet att förflytta sig med båt på Tevere, och man kan äta en enkel, ekologisk lunch i parkens trattoria vilken drivs av en förening, knuten till Nazzano.
